Cross-examination continues in Lusikisiki Ngobozana murder trial

The cross-examination of state witness, Lwando Abi, will continue today in the trial of six men accused of killing 18 people in Ngobozana village in Lusikisiki in the Eastern Cape.

The incident happened in September 2024. Fifteen women and two men died in the shooting, while a critically wounded man died in hospital two days later.

On Monday, Advocate Zama Somahela, the lawyer for one of the accused, Bonga Hintsa, cross-examined Abi in the High Court in Mthatha.

Accused number three, Siphosoxolo Myekethe’s lawyer, Advocate Mthuthuzeli Xozwa, maintained that his client did not enter the Sinqina households to shoot the 18 people at Ngobozana.

In his cross-examination of Abi, he tried to prove that his client did not take part in the shooting, alleging that he did not even leave the car.

Advocate Xozwa says his client was in the car together with Lwando Abi, who was the driver.

Abi confirmed that Myekethe did not enter the crime scene but denied that he stayed behind in the car with him.

Accused number four, Bonga Hintsa’s lawyer Zama Somahela, will continue with his cross-examination of Abi on Tuesday.
