The Democratic Alliance in Gauteng has called on the Provincial Department of Education to desist from placing children far from where they live
The party held a picket at the Department’s Tshwane West District.
The picket comes as the department scrambles to place all the children who have yet to be assigned schools.
The party’s Member of the Provincial Legislature, Bronwynn Engelbrecht, says the department continues to place children in Soshanguve far from their homes, risking their safety.
“The safety implications for parents is huge, and the financial implication is huge. The other challenge that we find is that some parents in Soshanguve, their children are being placed in school in Pretoria North. There is a problem from department’s side.”

Spokesperson for the Provincial Department of Education ,Steve Mabona has dismissed the allegations by the DA.
“It’s silly season. DA is campaigning; everyone is campaigning. We have placed everyone in the area, Tshwane West. We have placed children at an alternative school that is Railway and many parents don’t want that school because it is mobile units, but we are pressured. We don’t have enough schools in the area, alternative schools are helping us.”
Premier Lesufi must stop blaming parents and start fixing schools
1️⃣ Premier Lesufi blaming parents for unplaced Grade 1 & 8 learners is not leadership, it’s deflection.
