Stolen copper cables recovered by authorities.
A 26-year-old man is expected to appear in the Standerton Magistrate’s Court in Mpumalanga on Monday. The man, who is from Lesotho, is accused of tampering with essential infrastructure and contravening the Immigration Act.
Security guards caught the suspect and three others stealing copper cables from a railway line at a farm in Standerton.
The suspect was arrested after the security guards called back up of the police.
Police spokesperson, Jabu Ndubane, says the other three suspects fled in their vehicle, which was later found loaded with 402 meters of copper cable estimated to be valued at R150 000.
