Mpumalanga Eskom employee killed in shooting incident, wife injured

An Eskom employee in Mpumalanga has been killed and another wounded following a shooting incident today.

The two employees, who are husband and wife, were stationed at Kriel Power Station.

They were allegedly attacked while travelling home from work.

Eskom spokesperson Daphne Mokwena says the husband died on the scene and the wife was rushed to hospital for medical care.

Mokwena says Eskom is working closely with the authorities to assist with the investigation.

“We urge the public and media to refrain from repeating unverified claims or speculation, and to allow law enforcement the necessary space to complete their investigation process.  Eskom is working closely with the authorities to assist with the investigation. We are also providing support to the family and our staff members during this difficult period. We will continue to share relevant updates to the extent possible as information becomes available. Our thoughts are with the family, colleagues, and all those affected by this tragic incident.”
