Gauteng police appeal for public help after Jeffsville mass shooting

Gauteng police have appealed to the public for information that can lead to the arrest of the suspects behind Wednesday’s mass shooting at Jeffsville informal settlement in Attredgeville, west of Pretoria.

Five men sitting outside a tuckshop were shot and killed when gunmen opened fire on them.

Police suspect the motive for the attack could be related to extortion linked to the running of spaza shops and other businesses.

Tshwane District Police Commissioner, Major-General Samuel Thine, says the area is a high crime zone.

“Extortions are there, are reported, although people are not coming forward with information to identify the suspects. We do get unconfirmed information. And there’s an intelligence-driven operation that I have indicated to the crime intelligence. To gather more information on extortions and follow it up.”
