Ekurhuleni mayor denies alleged link to former auditor’s death

City of Ekurhuleni mayor, Nkosindiphile Xhakaza, has dismissed allegations linking him to the killing of the City’s former Chief Auditor, Mpho Mafole.

The mayor briefed the media in Germiston following media reports that he attempted to interfere in investigations into wrongdoings in the municipality.

Mafole was shot and killed in Kempton Park in June last year, days after submitting a report detailing multi-million tender irregularities in the metro municipality.

Xhakaza insists he’s never interfered with or influenced any investigation.

“Let me be direct, I reject the insinuation and any suggestions that I have interfered with, influenced or sought to derail any investigation in the strongest possible terms. As a law abiding citizen, but most importantly, as a leader in the city, I view this as a serious matter that requires a further investigation,” says Xhakaza.
