Gift of the Givers aids Mpumalanga households after heavy rains

In Mpumalanga, the humanitarian organisation Gift of the Givers, is assisting more than 800 distressed households that heavy rains have affected.

Chief Albert Luthuli, Mbombela, Nkomazi and Mkhondo have been identified as the municipalities that need urgent assistance.

The organisation is giving out items including food parcels and blankets.

Over 25 people have drowned in the province since last month.

The provincial government has put the death toll at 13.

The organisation’s Hlubikazi Ntshobane says, “Most mud houses have been either extremely damaged or completely swept away, but we’ve also seen very bad damages on the roads that made it hard for our teams to get to some areas. We’ve brought food hampers, so we’ve got those disaster hampers for them. We’ve got blankets, we’ve got sleeping mattresses, we’ve got detergent and hygiene for them, as well as baby food supplies.”
