Khomotso Phahlane at Ad Hoc Committee hearing
A hostile exchange has taken place between the evidence leader of the Ad Hoc Committee in Cape Town looking into concerns of national security, Advocate Norman Arendse and the former acting National Police Commissioner Khomotso Phahlane.
Advocate Arendse accused Phahlane of misleading the committee by denying he approved the procurement of the R24 million cameras for police between 2013 and 2016.
Phahlane: “Chair I am also human. I suspect that I am allowed to take offence. I can’t be told I am misleading when I am tendering here factual information. And I am going back.”
Advocate Arendse: “Allow me to go back that I want to put to you. I don’t make statements like that like as a counsel and as an advocate subject to the rules of ethics you are correct. I can’t make a statement like that … you are misleading without reference to the facts.”
