ANC’s Masina highlights local government fixes at 114th anniversary

African National Congress (ANC) National Executive Committee (NEC) member, Mzwandile Masina, says President Cyril Ramaphosa’s January 8 statement will address the party’s need to fix local government.

The ANC’s 114th anniversary celebration is taking place at Moruleng Stadium in the North West, on Saturday, a province that has been plagued by service delivery challenges.

Speaking to SABC News ahead of Ramaphosa’s address this afternoon, Masina says a lot of things are going wrong at the local government level.

“We have now made some proposals in the white paper which are going to help local government, especially those municipalities without revenue, to be assisted so that we can move forward. But also, we want to put forward councillors that are competent and are rooted on the ground with our people so that they can resolve challenges that are facing us at the local government level. I’m confident that the message of the president with regard to local government is going to really send a very clear message about what the ANC seeks to achieve in 2026,” adds Masina.
