Energy and Electricity Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa says natural gas is critical as a transitional energy source on Africa’s path towards a sustainable and decarbonised energy future.
Ramokgopa was speaking at the Africa Energy Week, at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.
He says the global pipeline for gas trade is also rebounding this year, after contracting in 2022 due to geopolitical developments.
Ramokgopa says, “Africa is the fourth largest region with proven gas reserves, accounting for 8% of the global gas reserves. Africa’s gas production is on track to reach 253 billion cubic metres in 2024, representing 7% of the worldwide gas production.”
