President Cyril Ramaphosa has urged South African men to respect women and girls and desist from abusing them as the country enters a new year.
In his annual New Year’s message, the president acknowledged the challenges the country faced in 2025 and urged South Africans to be hopeful for a better year.
“To the women of our country: you are the backbone of our nation; we honour and respect you. I call upon the men of South Africa to respect and honour the young girls and the women of South Africa and desist from gender-based violence and femicide.”
President Ramaphosa has also called on South Africans to unite and build the country of their dreams.
The president has acknowledged the challenges the nation faced in 2025 and offered assurances that government is working to address them
