Christmas Day tragedy claims four pedestrian lives in Gauteng

Four pedestrians have died in separate incidents across Gauteng on Christmas Day.

Gauteng Traffic Police say two teenagers died on the R512 near Zithobeni township after a motor vehicle overturned and crashed onto them.

In Mondeor, a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle and died instantly on the R82 near Colombine Road and in Dobsonville a pedestrian was hit by a car along Elias Motsoaledi Road and died.

Gauteng Traffic Police Spokesperson Sello Maremane has urged both motorists and pedestrians to consider the safety of one another and that of other road users.

“Pedestrians are urged to cross the road only when it is safe to do so. Motorists must at all times be on the lookout for pedestrians especially on freeways and built up areas,” says Maremane.
