As part of precautionary measures, the Eastern Cape government Agriculture Department, has restricted the movement of animals across the province for the next 30 days, except for slaughtering.
This after one case of foot-and-mouth disease was confirmed in the Amahlathi Local Municipality.
Agriculture MEC Spokesperson, Atule Joka, says suspected cases showing symptoms of Foot-and-Mouth Disease have also been reported in areas such as Dutywa, Matatiele and the Winnie Madikizela-Mandela Local Municipality.
Joka says the suspected farms have been placed in quarantine.
