Police in the Nerth West combat illegal mining activities in Kroondal

Police in the North West have embarked on an operation to combat illegal mining activities that have spread to Kroondal area near Rustenburg.

This area is neighboring Bapong village that has been plagued by illegal backyard chrome mining.

Police made several arrests at Bapong following the deployment of multi-disciplinary teams.

In Kroondal, police have confiscated several machineries that includes excavators.

Authorities say no arrests have been made as they are working hard to identify and arrest the kingpins behind these illegal mining operations.

“On our arrival obviously, the illegal miners have abandoned site and disappeared, and due to the weather and the area and surrounding, we did not intend to pursue them because we know we will find them. But, however, we have seized various machineries that consist of TLB and heavy machineries as well as trucks,” General Ryno Naidoo, Acting North West Police Commissioner explains.
