Police probe link between 11 arrested suspects and Bekkersdal murders

Gauteng Deputy Police Commissioner Major General Fred Kekana says a team of investigators is probing whether the 11 suspects arrested at a house in Bekkersdal could be linked to the murder of 10 people at a local tavern last Sunday.

The 11 suspects comprise of nine undocumented Lesotho nationals and one undocumented Mozambican national.

They were arrested at a house in Bekkersdal on Wednesday morning. During the arrest police recovered one AK47, pistols and ammunition.

Police have also arrested a South African national, who is a mineworker and owns the house where the suspects were arrested.

Kekana says suspects will appear in court soon.
