Durban Metro Police caution motorists

Meanwhile, Metro Police in Durban says officers are cautioning motorists to obey the rules of the road as there will be ongoing roadblocks.

Metro Police spokesperson Boysie Zungu says officers cannot demand payment for fines at a roadblock and motorists should know their rights when being stopped.

Zungu says law enforcement officers will provide patrols on highways and beaches, given the influx of visitors to Durban.

“The police, they are allowed to stop you, ask for your licence, check for your vehicles, check everything in terms of roadworthiness. If it happened that they have to give you a fine because of any wrongdoing or any wrong, they have to give you a ticket, then you don’t pay for the fine on the spot, but you have to go and pay at the Metro Police pay point,” adds Zungu.
