Former MEC for Health and the ANC’s Chief Whip in Gauteng, Brian Hlongwa.
The African National Congress (ANC) in Gauteng has sent out its condolences to the family of former Gauteng Health MEC Brian Hlongwa.
Hlongwa died in hospital on Tuesday following an illness.
He was an MEC from 2006 to 2009 and later became the ANC’s Chief Whip in the provincial legislature.

In a statement, the ANC has expressed sadness over Brian Hlongwa’s passing.
The party has described him as an astute and seasoned educator who was committed to the ideals of the liberation movement.
It says Hlongwa, who started his political activism just before the 80s, was inspired by leaders such as Steven Biko and remains a patriot and combatant to the end.
