ActionSA questions Sanral ties with corruption-hit construction firm

Action SA in KwaZulu-Natal has raised concerns over the relationship between the roads agency Sanral and a construction company facing corruption allegations.

China State Construction Engineering Corporation is accused of misrepresentation and fabrication in its tender bid documents.

The Umngeni-uThukelo Water Board subsequently blacklisted the company.

The party’s provincial chairperson Zwakele Mncwango, says, “ActionSA is still waiting to see and hear how Sanral will approach the issue of a Company called China State Engineering. This company, according to Whistleblower information that ActionSA received, was about to be awarded one of the big contracts … despite that there has been allegations of corruption and their officials even within Sanral who have been suspended around the issue of corruption in previous contract in relations to colluding with the very same company.”

The Transport Department in KwaZulu-Natal says MEC Sboniso Duma, has requested the acting head of the department, Sma Ngubo, to look into the issue.

The department’s spokesperson Ndabezinhle Sibiya, says, “The MEC has requested the acting head of the Department of Transports Sma Ngubo to establish circumstances around this matter.”
