Madlanga Commission received evidence from 28 walk-in submissions

The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry says it has received evidence from 28 walk-in submissions.

The Commission, chaired by retired Constitutional Court Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga, is probing allegations of criminality, political interference and corruption made by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.

Commission Spokesperson Jeremy Michaels says 45 of the 89 submissions to the Commission’s hotline were found to be within the Commission’s terms of reference.

Michael’s comments come as the Commission handed over its interim report to President Cyril Ramaphosa, three months after Mkhwanazi took to the stand at the Commission in September.

He says the Commission has welcomed more submissions.

“The Commission has also been encouraged by the fact that more witnesses have come forward to assist it in getting to the bottom of the very serious allegations of criminality, political interference and corruption in the criminal justice system. If they are found to be true, these allegations hold grave implications for the rule of law. And the commission will leave no stone unturned as we seek the truth and make actionable recommendations to the President.”
