IFP, DA protest to back Premier Ntuli ahead of no-confidence vote

Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP)  and Democratic Alliance (DA) members and supporters are expected to protest outside the KwaZulu-Natal legislature in Pietermaritzburg on Monday in solidarity with Premier Thami Ntuli.

The uMkhonto we Sizwe (MK) Party tabled a motion of no confidence in Ntuli, which parties will vote on today.

MK Party members held a night vigil outside the legislature ahead of the crucial vote. The party, which has 37 seats in the 80-seat chamber, hopes to get enough votes to unseat the current government of provincial unity consisting of the IFP, ANC, DA and NFP.

The MK Party’s Moeketsi Mahasela explains, “We are 100% hopeful that this will be successful because we know that the members of the legislature are going to vote in the interest of the people of KwaZulu-Natal, putting them first. They are going to vote, putting the people who are unemployed, putting the interests of the people who are suffering on the streets, who are being robbed of their belongings. We are very confident that people are not going to vote along their party line, but they are going to vote saying what is happening from the communities they are coming from.”
