South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.
President Cyril Ramaphosa has given the assurance that government will redouble its efforts to protect the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry’s whistleblowers and witnesses.
This follows the killing of a witness, Marius van der Merwe, in Brakpan, east of Johannesburg, on Friday night.
He was gunned down in front of his wife and children at their home.
Van der Merwe had implicated suspended EMPD deputy chief Julius Mkhwanazi in a murder following the killing of a man whose body was thrown in a dam in 2022.
Ramaphosa has urged law enforcement agencies to ensure that Van der Merwe’s killers face justice.
