Police Minister Senzo Mchunu testifying before the Madlanga Commission, 05 Dec 2025.
Police Minister Senzo Mchunu has denied receiving money from attempted murder accused Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala.
North-West businessman Brown Mogotsi allegedly solicited money from Matlala, saying that it was for guests attending an African National Congress function.
Mchunu, who is on a leave of absence, appeared before the Commission in Pretoria on Friday.
“It’s false. It’s false. Yes. I’m not part of that. If Mr. Mogotsi has ever received any money from Mr. Matlala, that would mean that it was he and he alone receiving whatever he would have received. Myself, I’ve never asked for any money from Mr. Matlala. I’ve never met him. I’ve never spoken to him on the phone. I’ve never asked for anything from him. I’ve never received anything from him.”
Mchunu says that the narrative that he disbanded the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) to shield Matlala from prosecution is not true. This was allegedly in exchange for money.
