Disinformation among groups in SA fuelling US stance

President Cyril Ramaphosa says disinformation among groups in the country is fuelling the US stance towards South Africa.

He says this is undermining South Africa’s national security and hampering government’s efforts to create jobs.

Ramaphosa has appealed to those who he says have been spreading disinformation about the country to join the country’s National Dialogue to ventilate their issues.

Addressing the nation on Sunday night, Ramaphosa said South Africa remained committed to engaging with the US in respectful dialogue.

“We offer the people of the United States nothing but goodwill and friendship. We affirm our commitment to continue to engage in dialogue with the United States government, and to do so with respect and with dignity as equal sovereign countries.”

He added: “We value the United States government and its people as a partner. We have common interests, common values and a shared wish to advance the prosperity and well-being of the people of both of our countries.”
