ANC delegates finalise inputs ahead of NGC in Gauteng

The Limpopo African National Congress (ANC) Provincial General Council (PGC) has finalised its inputs for the  National General Council (NGC) to be held in Gauteng.

The Council brought together senior party leaders and delegates from the five regional districts. Among the key recommendations is the high-speed train between Limpopo and Gauteng and internet accessibility.

Limpopo provincial secretary Reuben Madadzhe says other priorities include digital migration in rural areas.

“We are saying to our government that we may need to move some steps further. We recognise that government is connecting all of us, but we also need to treat the internet as a basic right that everybody can have, not a privilege, where if you do not have data, you cannot access the internet. When we go to national council, these are some of the points that we are going to recommend to the fifth national general council as the province.”

Madadzhe says they will draft policies that align spheres of government to ensure a smooth transition while implementing recommendations.

“These things of red tape – that is why the president appointed a committee to make sure that government policies are aligned both at the local government, provincial and national government. So that you do not have a situation where one sphere, when it wants to implement a particular policy it gets impeded by another sphere of government or by another entity of government.”

ANC in North West

Meanwhile, the ANC in North West will wrap up its two-day Provincial General Council in Potchefstroom on Sunday. Delegates from all four regions of the province are attending the gathering.

The performance of the provincial executive committee, governance challenges, and the state of government came under sharp focus on the first day of the Provincial General Council on Saturday.

The party’s provincial spokesperson Tumelo Maruping explains, “The conference made an assessment in terms of our governance structures, local government, provincial government, and our state-owned entities. The national chairperson, Comrade Gwede Mantashe, also presented a National General Council-based document as we prepare for the national general council, which will be convened in Gauteng next week. On Sunday, we will be receiving reports from different commissions which set on Saturday.”
