Lesotho, Kenya runners claim Soweto Marathon’s 30th edition titles

Foreign runners continue to dominate the Soweto Marathon. Lesotho’s Khoarahlane Seutloali, running in the colours of HollywoodBets, won the 30th edition of the race in cool and wet conditions this morning. Last year’s runner-up was part of a three-man group who took the lead with just more than five kilometres to go, and he proved to be the strongest in the end.

He crossed the finish line in an official time of two hours, 20 minutes and nine seconds, well outside the record, but capping a remarkable year in which he also won the Two Oceans Marathon.

The women’s race was won by Margaret Jepchumba of Kenya in two hours, 34 minutes and 33 seconds. They pocketed R250 000 each. Some 18 000 runners started the race at five o’clock this morning, with Deputy President, Paul Mashatile, one of them.
