Members of various churches gather for the National Day of Prayer at the FNB Stadium.
The National Day of Prayer is currently underway at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg. Hundreds of South Africans have gathered for the 5th instalment of the mass prayer gathering that started in 2017.
The event is hosted by the Motsepe Foundation.
The atmosphere is electric as congregants continue to come in their numbers. Motsepe Foundation spokesperson Benny Boshielo says the event has grown over the years.
” We started with 37 religious and faith based organisations, we have got morethan 20 which want to join in now, but they are attending. The stadium, when we started we had about 70 to 80 000, now it is over 100 000 who want to attend. So we had to find a way of scaling down, to the churches to say can you cut down on your numbers. We can only do as far as FNB can take.”
