Thunderstorms expected in Gauteng ahead of G20 Summit

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) says scattered rain and thunderstorms are expected in Gauteng this afternoon.

This as the province hosts world leaders for the G20 Summit in Nasrec, Johannesburg this weekend.

Weather Service says thunderstorms are also expected on Saturday in some parts of Pretoria, Limpopo and Mpumalanga.

Forecaster Lehlohonolo Thobela says Gauteng will experience a partly cloudy day on Sunday.

“A Yellow Level 1 warning of minor impacts of severe thunderstorms is expected later in the afternoon, over Gauteng. Just remember that with severe thunderstorms, we’re expecting heavy downpours that may lead to localized flooding, a possibility of damaging winds, as well as a possibility of hail and excessive lightning. For tomorrow, isolated showers and thundershowers will remain in the Eastern parts of the country, which would cover the Free State province, the North West into KwaZulu-Natal, but becomes a 60% chance of showers and 30% shows over Gauteng, Mpumalanga, as well as the Southern parts of Limpopo,” adds Thobela.
