National Director of Public Prosecutions, Advocate Shamila Batohi, will continue her evidence at the Nkabinde Inquiry in Pretoria on Friday morning.
On Thursday, Batohi told the inquiry that the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) faces undue influence from various sources, making prosecutions increasingly difficult.
The inquiry is probing the fitness of suspended South Gauteng Director Andrew Chauke to hold office.
Advocate Chauke is accused of shielding influential figures from prosecution while pursuing cases without sufficient evidence.
Batohi warned that interference in prosecutorial duties could amount to obstruction of justice.
“Prosecuting in SA is a very complicated and very challenging job. We have to do our constitutional job, making sure that we comply. The fact that there are those who want to try to influence the work of the NPA happens. And it can come from various sources, and for example, it can even come from the media.”
