SAPS members honoured for their dedication during a medal parade in the Boland Park Cricket Stadium in Paarl.
Western Cape Police Commissioner, Thembisile Patekile, says there has been full cooperation with the police ombudsman, whose 2022 report found that gangs had infiltrated the police.
A redacted version of the report was released by Premier Alan Winde last week, following pressure by civil society.
Patekile was speaking in Paarl in the Boland during a medal parade for long service in the SAPS.
Communities across the Cape Flats live in fear.
Patekile says community cooperation is vital to the police’s plan to dismantle criminal networks and structures.
He says no corrupt cop will be spared.
“There was no reason for us not to co-operate, and we are not part of whatever was there. We have done what we have done and we know that some members were arrested and we dismissed quite a number that was involved directly or indirectly with the gangs, whether with a particular gang which talks of Tabisher of Modack and others, we have had so many, but we are continuing, whenever we find any of our members wanting.”
#sapsWC [AT THIS HOUR] #SAPS in the Western Cape is today recognising men and women who have dedicated 10, 20 and 30 years’ of loyal service to the organisation.
