The Supreme Court of Appeal in Bloemfontein
The Supreme Court of Appeal in Bloemfontein will hear the appeal brought by the African National Congress (ANC) after it lost the application to stop the use of the MK Party’s name and logo.
Before the 2024 General Elections, the ANC unsuccessfully invoked trademark law in the Durban High Court.
Judge Mahendra Chetty dismissed the application but later granted the ANC leave to appeal.
In a statement, ANC states that this case is about safeguarding a heritage built through sacrifice, discipline and unwavering commitment to the struggle for freedom.

The MK Party released a statement on Thursday saying that the ANC’s appeal is an act of desperation and a refusal to accept that it no longer represents the aspirations of the people.
