Parliament’s Ad Hoc committee will on Thursday hear testimony from Cedrick Nkabinde, who is Chief of Staff in the office of Police Minister Senzo Mchunu. Mchunu is currently on special leave.
In a media briefing in early October, Nkabinde made a plea for his life.
The committee was established to look into allegations of criminal infiltration, corruption and political interference in the justice system made by KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Lt-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi in July.
Among others, Mkhwanazi told the committee that Nkabinde recorded a cellphone conversation between the two of them.
He also told MPs that Nkabinde confessed to him that he was offered the post of Chief of Staff by Mchunu, even though he had no idea what it entailed.
Mkhwanazi’s testimony was that it was Nkabinde who told him that Mchunu and controversial businessman, Brown Mogotsi, were very close.
