ANC Ekurhuleni secretary, Jongizizwe Dlabathi
The African National Congress (ANC) in Gauteng has denied protecting the suspended Ekurhuleni Metro Police deputy Chief Julius Mkhwanazi.
Yesterday, the City of Ekurhuleni announced the suspension of Mkhwanazi, following testimonies from two of his colleagues at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.
They revealed Mkhwanazi’s alleged corruption and political protection from earlier disciplinary processes.
ANC Ekurhuleni secretary, Jongizizwe Dlabathi says politicians are not involved in the promotion of officers.
“It does appear that this misconduct and all other maleficence were happening at a level of the administration that is responsible for the day-to-day implementation of institutional work. No politician is involved in the promotion of officers. No politician is involved in any of the tasks that the officers are doing on the streets. So it would be fundamentally wrong to create a narrative that there was any form of political protection of Brigadier Julius Mkhwanazi and that is why, as the ANC, we welcome his suspension.”
