FILE | Accused number one in Senzo Meyiwa murder trial, Muzi Sibiya.
The state in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial says accused one Muzi Sibiya has failed to provide additional evidence to support claims that he was assaulted.
Sibiya alleged he was assaulted multiple times by the police following his arrest in May 2020 and forced to sign a confession and a pointing out statements.
However, he has denied confessing and pointing out the crime scene.
Five men are on trial at the High Court in Pretoria for the 2014 murder of Meyiwa.
State prosecutor George Baloyi says Sibiya has not provided evidence to substantiate his claims.
Baloyi: “There’s no new evidence since the trial within a trial regarding the allegations of assault. The Occurrence Books from Villieria Police Station Exhibit NN. The books from Diepkloof Police Station, indicate that there were no injuries.”
Sibiya: “I was assaulted.”
