Spokesperson claims political agenda to smear Mchunu’s reputation

The Spokesperson of Police Minister Senzo Mchunu, Sthembiso Mshengu believes there’s a political agenda to tarnish Mchunu’s image.

It was the Lieutenant General Mkhwanazi who said they believe that the minister has ambition to succeed the President. Therefore, in their dreams, probably they are conniving with a certain particular group of people that are unknown to us in order to tarnish the image of the minister. Hence, we are concluding that there is a political agenda in relation to what is happening.” says Mshengu.

The Minister, who is on special leave has handed over his electronic devices to the authorities as part of an ongoing investigation into KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi’s allegations.

According to Mkhwanazi, senior police officials including Mchunu are involved in corruption, interfere in police operations, and have links to criminal syndicates.

Mchunu denied any wrongdoing.

His spokesperson says his electronic devices were not tampered with before handing them to authorities,

“The gadgets of the minister have never been interfered with by himself. He did not delete any apps, he did not delete any numbers or any correspondence with any other person because he has nothing to fear in terms of what may be contained in his gadgets.” Mshengu adds.

The devices include a state-issued laptop, a personal tablet, two unused old cellphones in his possession and one active cellphone that he currently uses.
