Ramaphosa re-appoints Moepya as IEC chairperson


President Cyril Ramaphosa has re-appointed Mosotho Moepya as the chairperson of the Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC).

Judge Dhaya Pillay, who was appointed as a commissioner in 2018, will serve as a part-time member.

Joyce Pitso, who has served as an elections consultant on the continent, will serve as a full-time member of the commission.

Moepya has held various roles in the commission, which include Director for Electoral Logistics.

Presidential spokesperson Vincent Magwenya says, “Mrs Joyce Pitso will serve as a full-time member of the electoral commission, and Judge Diya Pillay will serve as a part-time member of the electoral commission. Mr Mosotho Moyepa will serve as a full-time member of the electoral commission. The president has also, in terms of section 8.1 of the Electoral Commission Act, designated Mr Moyepa as the chairperson of the commission.”
