President Ramaphosa arrives in Malaysia for ASEAN Summit


President Cyril Ramaphosa has arrived in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, for a working visit where he will serve as Guest of the Chair at the 47th ASEAN Summit and the East Asian Summit.

South Africa became a Sectoral Dialogue Partner of ASEAN in 2023.

According to government, this partnership marks an important step toward inclusive and sustainable development, strengthening political, economic, and multilateral cooperation between South Africa and the region.
The Presidency says South Africa and Malaysia share dynamic relations. The two countries worked closely in the decade following 1994, collaborating through platforms such as the Non-Aligned Movement, South-South Cooperation, and various Dialogue Partnerships.

The government sees Malaysia and the Southeast Asian region as an important part of SA’s foreign policy, maintaining that the partnership gives access to dynamic regional markets, emerging technologies and helps the country act as a globally engaged partner in the Global South.
