Mchunu disbanding PKTT shows he didn’t care for the country: Analyst

Crime and security analyst Thabang Bogopa says if Police Minister Senzo Mchunu, who is currently on a leave of absence, cared about the country, he wouldn’t have decided to disband the KwaZulu-Natal Political Killing Task Team PKTT).

Earlier Momday, National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola told the Madlanga Commission that Mchunu disbanded the Task Team while he was on leave.

Masemola also stated that the minister did not warn him about the disbandment of the task team, despite meeting him a few days before the disbandment.

Bogopa says Mchunu shouldn’t have taken this decision without consulting the relevant parties.

“”If he had the best interest of this country, he would have not taken the decisions that he’d taken in the manner and the direction that he has taken. So, he was tacit in making sure that he over endures political pressure on the heads in the SAPS and he targeted General Sibiya, knowing that perhaps General Sibiya, I would say he was already one foot in, one foot out. So, he knew his weaknesses and the vulnerabilities in the SAPS at that time, according to the situation was General Sibiya.”
