The uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) will be in the High Court in Pretoria on Thursday to continue its bid to have the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry dismantled.
President Cyril Ramaphosa established the commission following KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi’s allegations that senior police officials interfere with police operations and have links to criminal syndicates.
The officials include Police Minister Senzo Mchunu, who has been placed on special leave.
MKP National Spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela says, “It is patently unlawful and irrational for Ramaphosa to appoint a sitting judge to head a commission tasked with investigating allegations that directly implicate members of the judiciary in corruption, gangsterism and criminal syndicates.”
Ndhlela says, “Equally unlawful is the purported appointment of Firoz Cachalia as Acting Minister of Police, an unconstitutional usurpation of executive authority compounded by Ramaphosa’s arbitrary sidelining of Minister Senzo Mchunu under the guise of a leave of absence. Furthermore, the establishment of this Commission is a pointless duplication of the Parliamentary Ad Hoc Committee’s work.”
