Ramaphosa to launch ANC Plan for local government


African National Congress (ANC) President Cyril Ramaphosa is, today expected to unveil the party’s Action Plan to make local government work better for the people.

This comes ahead of next year’s local government elections.

Ramaphosa is currently presiding over 2-day Special ANC NEC meeting to discuss the challenges of the local sphere of government and how to address them.

The meeting will culminate in a Roll Call meeting of the party’s over 6000 councillors and mayors at the FNB stadium, on Monday. The public representatives will account to the ANC NEC on the work they have done since taking office after the 2021 local polls.

“The focus of the plan is to strengthen local government, the ANC has developed a draft Action Plan, which must be adopted by this NEC. This Action Plan will consolidate existing strategies, ensuring decisive progress in implementing our commitments in ANC-led municipalities,” says Ramaphosa.

He says the Action Plan will set out specific roles for ANC Councillors’ necessary interventions and monthly reporting requirements.

“Once adopted, the Action Plan will be shared with our deployees, setting out clear, measurable tasks both in government and the ANC,” adds Ramaphosa.
