SANTACO urges taxi operators to apply for relief fund

The South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) is calling on operators who haven’t applied for the Taxi Relief Fund (TRF) to do so promptly.

Applications are set to close on 31 October and extensions will not be granted.

SANTACO says the TRF was introduced by the Department of Transport as a one-time financial support aimed at helping taxi operators recover from the COVID-19 economic impact.

Over 73 000 operators have benefited so far, receiving more than R414 million jointly.

SANTACO spokesperson Mmatshikhidi Phala says over R400m is additionally allocated for the current year, with eligible operators set to get R7200 per operating license, including scholar transport services.

Phala says operators are encouraged to seize this opportunity for financial relief before the deadline.

“In order for an operator to apply they must submit the following documents; their certified copy of their ID, proof of residence and stamped bank confirmation letter,” says Phala.

She says applications can be submitted through a number of platforms, inclusive of online, through the national Department of Transport website where there is the taxi relief fund taxi page.

“Alternatively operators can also call the call centre number,” she adds.
