Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC Jackie Macie has been re-elected as African National Congress (ANC) chairperson of the eHlazeni Region.
The region’s elective conference which started on Saturday amid disputes, concluded on Monday at the Nutting House Lodge in Mbombela.
Delegates from 99 out the 130 branches, participated in the conference.
Macie called on all party members to unite and prepare for the coming Local Government Elections.
“There’s no longer conference, we odd to focus to the 2026/27 local government election, that is our main objective. Also with sound resolutions that are going to be taken out of this conference. That would make our people trust in the ANC. When they read the resolutions. they are going to be taken out of the commission, adopted by plenary to conference,” says Macie.
Meanwhile, the Speaker of the City of Mbombela, William Nkatha who lost to Macie, says they will rally behind the newly elected leadership.
“It was not on any personality. It was about central democratic process we find ourselves being part of. Now that there’s an elected leadership, there’s a responsibility to lead all of us those who supported and those who do not support them. And we are happy that the ANC has come this far. The ANC eHalazeni has elected the leadership. We must be united, the local government indeed they are coming. Those who contested, those who emerged elected draw closer to one space,” says Nkatha.
