ANC rejects Mathabatha’s intention to step aside

The meeting between the African National Congress (ANC) secretary-general Fikile Mbalula and the party’s Limpopo Provincial Executive Committee members has resolved to reject the provincial chairperson, Stanley Mathabatha’s intention to step aside.

Mathabatha cited alleged unethical practices and practices that he says are not in line with the ANC’s values occurring in the province.

The former premier of Limpopo and Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform says his decision was also motivated by misconduct and a lack of ANC values in the organization.

He also lamented the processes followed at the Vhembe and Waterberg regional elective conferences.

Mbalula summoned the ANC Limpopo Provincial Executive Committee members to Luthuli House on Thursday, following the notice to step aside by Mathabatha.

While the intention was rejected, the matter was referred back to the province, to allow the issues raised by Mathabatha to be addressed internally and for a resolution to be found.

The ANC has emphasised that this process is guided by the principles of organisational renewal, unity and accountability.

It says that with all regional conferences in Limpopo now concluded, the province is expected to focus on accelerating service delivery.
