The African National Congress (ANC) Free State Chairperson addresses the Special PEC meeting in Bloemfontein on August 20, 2025.
The African National Congress (ANC) in Free State is set to announce the outcomes of Wednesday’s special Provincial Executive Council (PEC) meeting.
The ANC indicated last month that there would be restructuring in at least five municipalities, found to be in a state of disarray after an oversight visit by Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Cooperative Governance.
Five mayors are allegedly on the firing line due to their dysfunctional municipalities.
According to the Auditor-General’s report, many have received disclaimers, making appointments on critical posts without proper consultation amongst others.
Municipalities such as Nala, Masilonyana, Nketoana and Lejweleputswa are amongst the worst performing municipalities with irregular expenditure.
Some municipalities have failed to pay workers’ salaries and third parties.
