Rise Mzansi leaders Songezo Zibi, Makashule Gana and Vuyiswa Ramokgopa addressed a press briefing on August 18, 2025.
Rise Mzansi says it is concerned about squabbles between the African National Congress (ANC) and the Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Government of National Unity (GNU).
The party, which is also a member of the GNU, says the coalition government requires a proactive political management structure.
Rise Mzansi’s Chief Whip Makashule Gana says, “The position that we have taken is that because the GNU is new itself, it’s still finding its own feet, that the terms of reference are a work in progress. We did agree in terms of the issues that will serve the (GNU) Clearing House (Mechanism), it’s just unfortunate that it does not convince as much.”
“The Budget was supposed to be one of the issues that we believe should be dealt with by the clearing house ’cause it was a contestation among the members of the GNU, so that did not happen. It’s important to get the structures of the GNU to work, not only wait for a crisis because at the moment it feels like the GNU comes to life when there is a crisis, when there is no crisis, people forget there is no GNU, we’re almost waiting for a crisis.”
Gana adds, “What we have expressed to the ANC, but to also the Deputy President who is chairing the Clearing House, is that we must not wait for a crisis, we must be proactive because the GNU needs to work, not just for political parties but for South Africa as a whole.”
