Rand manipulation case resumes at Constitutional Court

The hearing of the Competition Commission’s pursuit for justice in the decades-long rand manipulation matter is set to resume in the Constitutional Court this morning.

The commission has stressed that the issue of jurisdiction is critical because without it, a regulatory gap would remain.

It says this would effectively allow anyone to collude in fixing the rand’s value without consequence.

Last year, the Competition Appeal Court (CAC) dismissed the cases against some of the 28 banks that were accused of rand manipulation.
