Hoërskool Roodepoort principal, three learners injured after fight

Three learners and the principal of Hoërskool Roodepoort sustained injuries following a fight with learners from West Ridge High school, west of Johannesburg.

The learners have been hospitalised while the principal was discharged after being treated for stab wounds sustained on the hand as she tried to defuse tensions between the learners.

Gauteng Education spokesperson Steve Mabona says six Grade 12 boys from West Ridge High School have been identified and will be served with suspension letters on Tuesday pending their appearance before a disciplinary committee.

He says further suspensions may be affected as the verification of evidence continues.

Mabona added, “This violence follows an earlier altercation between learners from the two schools on Friday, 15 August 2025, which went viral on social media. Unfortunately, on Monday, 18 August 2025, a group of West Ridge learners who allegedly went there on a planned revenge, started attacking learners at the Hoerskool Roodepoort and pelted cars with stones.

In the process, the principal of Hoërskool Roodepoort was stabbed while trying to destabilise the situation and was rushed to hospital to a medical facility.

She has since been discharged. Furthermore, three learners from Roodepoort sustained injuries and are receiving medical attention.”
