Sinner, Sabalenka through to Cincinnati Open quarterfinals

The top seeds have advanced to the quarterfinals of the Cincinnati Open tennis tournament in Ohio.

Defending champion, Italy’s Jannik Sinner and world number one Aryna Sabalenka both recorded straight-sets wins.

Sinner is on a quest to clinch his first Masters 1000 title of the year.

He beat Frenchman Adrian Mannarino 7-5, 7-6 after a lengthy rain delay at the start of the second set.

Spanish second seed Carlos Alcaraz booked his place in a Masters quarter-final for the 18th time defeating Italy’s Luca Nardi 6-1 6-4.

However, French qualifier Terence Atmane earned the biggest win of his career.

Atmane stunned American fourth seed Taylor Fritz 3-6, 7-5, 6-3, to earn his first Masters 1000 quarter-final berth.
