The Early Childhood Development (ECD) sector under Gauteng ECD is marching from Library Gardens to the Premier’s office in Johannesburg to raise their grievances.
The sector is now under the Basic Education Department from Social Development.
The march organisers say they are dealing with a number of issues, which include not receiving promised funds and not being given the recognition they deserve.
March organiser, Nomthandazo Moahloli Sengange, says they are demanding answers on why they are being shortchanged.
“We are being treated unfairly, no communication. The government announced that we are going to get R24 per child per day. Three months later, they tell us that we are going from R24 to R10, not even half of what we’re supposed to get.
We want answers on what happened to the money that we were promised. We also want answers on why can’t they complicate? We are human beings.”
