ANC plans to expand GNU an effort to cling to power: FF Plus

The Freedom Front Plus (FF Plus) has described the African National Congress’ (ANC) plans to expand the Government of National Unity (GNU) as an attempt to cling to power.

The ANC’s move to add more parties comes amid its rising tensions with the Democratic Alliance (DA), its largest GNU partner.

FF Plus leader Corné Mulder says the ANC should instead focus on ensuring that the GNU functions effectively.

Mulder believes that the GNU is the right way to go at the moment in South Africa and further adds that they will not reset the GNU just to bring in other partners to continue in the wrong way that they are doing currently.

“The largest party always in the GNU or coalition should set the example. At the moment, the ANC is setting exactly the wrong example. All they’re trying to do is to call up other parties and to get other parties to give in the necessary majorities to push their own agenda through. Their own agenda, can never be the agenda of the Government of National Unity,” says Mulder.
