DA identifies critical areas for Cachalia to prioritise

DA’s Spokesperson on Police, Ian Cameron, says they have identified critical areas of expectation for the new acting Police Minister, Professor Firoz Cachalia.

Cachalia was officially sworn in at the Union Buildings in Pretoria earlier today.

He replaces Senzo Mchunu who has been placed on leave of absence following corruption allegations against him.

Cameron says the DA thinks there are critical areas in which Cachalia should not fail.

“He should not fail to implement comprehensive and independent audits, roll out the SAPS structure signed in May at all levels, and also update and review the SAPS Act. He must end long paid suspensions by finalising disciplinary cases swiftly, bring back internal discipline units to restore discipline, and also reinforce merit-based appointments,” says Cameron.
